Preparing Traditional Welsh Cake

One of the lasting memories for the traditional Welsh culture is the Welsh Cake.

The cake appeared for the first time during the harsh winters that greeted the Welsh pioneers..

The lack of food facing the colonists during their initial years drove them to use ingredients that was available in the store cupboards and wouldn't go stale.

They prepared a cake with dried fruit, nuts and alcohol.

The cake has played an important part in the lives of the pioneers. During weddings, the cake was a highlight of the occasion.

Year after year the couple would celebrate their anniversary with a slice of that same wedding cake. This is a tradition that continues today.
